Oh WOW! That's gorgeous! Do you only get one with the tin or could you perhaps order another if you got another order?

i bought the face plate separately from the tin ..you can buy them togethre but not that often...but when I use it I ask tehm not to clean it and send it back to me so I can clean it properly without losing the colour on the plate..cos when you wash it if you dry it by rubbing the colour will come off do you need to let it dry naturally..
glad you like it wasnt sure about using the face plate felt abit of a cop out but the effect is good

I really love it and think it's a great idea. Especially for characters with realistic faces. I'm not sure exactly what you mean about cleaning them though Where do you get them from? I don't think it's a cop out at all because it looks amazing. I feel like that about ornaments (like winnie the pooh etc.) used on the tops of cakes. They should be handmade. Can I also ask how much you charged? I've got a Fifi and the Flowertots to make next week and am doing a similar size cake. I charge £45. I had a bad cake experience on Saturday. I made a power ranger cake and then I got a message on my phone saying there was something wrong with the cake and they couldn't cut it at the party to put into the party bags. I'm terrible with any sort of confrontation or anything like that, so my husband phoned them back (he was brilliant!). It was a madiera cake and as they were having a joint party, they compared it to the other cake, which was a victorian sponge, and thought it didn't look right so threw the lot out! Apart from one little piece which they froze to show me as evidence, they wasted a perfectly good cake. Even so, that sort of thing always knocks your confidence a bit. I just try and think what idiots they must think they are at the moment. It does also make me want to get my 'a into gear' and get that personal liability insurance.

Shainne...you havent got insurance...you must have it..if anything happens you could lose loads it not worth the risk..blackfrairs do good insurance rates the best i ahve found call them up 08702 201047.
I wouldnt worry about the cake some people dont understand the differnce between cakes and they are stupid enough to throw a good cake away then more fool them.
The face plate I got off ebay in the USA you can get a good selection there and yes for my mermiad one I charged £45.00 but there was alot of icing used cos the board was 18 inches so took abit to cover it.

18" is a huge board. I'm doing a 12" cake this week and even that's massive!
I'll definitely get the insurance because that incident on the weekend scared me a bit about not having it. Thanks for the info.

lol...these wilton tins are big though....lol...need a big board...but if you went ot a shop and got on they would never cover the board cos its too expensive....but I feel it makes a huge difference and I always put the candles on cos I find if you dont they stick them where the candles shouldnt go and ruin it..

I know what you mean, I've just never bothered with the candles - perhaps I should! I'm thinking about finding somewhere cheaper to buy my sugarpaste. I buy Supercooks Regalice but Tesco aren't stocking it anymore. I usually buy it from Asda anyway but if I run out, Tesco is closer.
Seems like it's just you and me on this board now hey? May as well email each other personally lol! I find it takes so long to put photos into photobucket, resize and then post them, that I might just email them to you. :-)
Forgot to add that I really like the candle holders. The fish are a lovely idea!

I get my supplies of sugarpaste and candles etc etc boards all my bulk stuff from www.sugarshack.co.uk good prices and the candles are also cheap 99p for a pack of 24.. Also the board and covering was done in a two tone marble effect to look like the sea but the picccie doesnt show it that well and it was covered in glitter..again doesnt show so well but looked feathey watery and sparkly in the flesh

i'll have a look at them and compare them to the shop I usually go to. I got an 80p (whoopee!) discount when buying 10 boards - not the greatest discount but I suppose it's something.
