The background for my photos - I take the pictures outdoors as the light is better and sit them on a black sheet of card and put a black sheet of card behind them. I then use photoshop to select all the black and make it white (easier to do than putting white backgrounds when I take the photos as the cakes pften have white on them, but seldom have black.) I think it gives the pictures a crisp finish for the web-site.
The handbag cake was a killer - the handle was SO hard to do and I wish I'd got a perfect arc for it. I attached the roll of pastillage to one side of the cake and draped it over a shaped piece of card to dry, the card buckled though hence the dint in the handle. So next time I'll use thicker card or a plastic sheet or something. The shoe is also pastillage and was fairly easy to make, just cut out the sole, heel and strap and stuck them together with royal icing, letting it dry on plasticine that I'd shaped into the curve of a shoe.

Hi Emma,
They're amazing. I love the swirly wedding one and of course the cushions. I'm dying to have an order for a bag. They look fun to make. How on earth did you shape the dummies for the cushion cake?

The dummies I carved with a bread knife - very messy and squeaky! I carved a tapered edge an inch from the outside and then curved it in a bit along each edge. They are not as deep as I'd like - next time I'd stick two dummies/cakes on top of each other for each cushion. I want someone to order a handbag too! I thought if I put one on my web-site people are more likely to order it.

I agree. I've had to do 3 rugby balls and only because the others saw the first one.

I don't quite know how this hadn't occured to me before, people were coming to me about my site and saying 'Ooh I liked the one of the football cup, could you do me one?' And I'd think 'Aaargh!' I hated doing it - so why did I have it on my web-site - So now I've removed all the ones I don't ever want to do again!

Hi. Just took a risk with my printer and edible ink and printed off no bother on a sheet of normal rice paper - so no bother is anyone wants a logo or something printed. Obviously a lot cheaper than on a sheet of icing!

Hi Nauseen,
Don't you just love crimping? I think it really transforms a cake and purple is one of my favourite colours. :-)
