Hi, i would love to attempt to make a rose from flower paste , although i have the 3 books from the international school they only tell you how to make one from scratch, I have bought the orchard book 1 from alison i am hoping this will help me. There are so many different cutters on the websites and ebay for roses and different manufacturers i am very confused as which to buy, also read somewhere you can use the 5 petal cutter ? Thankyou

Hi Chrissy,
I use the 5 petal cutter but you won't be able to make a botanically correct rose out of it unless i suppose, you cut out the 5 petals individually. It's just how we've been taught. Next year, we'll have to do everything as it is in nature. I think the one's i did last night came out quite well. I'll try take a photo now quickly.

The top one isn't the best but i thought i'd colour it anyway. It's only my 3rd attempt, so i'm pleased. I just use the plastic 5 petal 'quickie' cutter. I think it's fmm, not sure.

Hi Chrissy, Thanks! This is the one i used - 42mm (it's known as a 5 petal flower cutter): newlook.design-a-cake.co.uk/common/images/Products/orc/Five_Petal_F5_F6A_F6.jpgbut this one is a 5 petal rose cutter which i think i'm going to get: newlook.design-a-cake.co.uk/common/images/Products/fmm/FMM-5_Petal_Rose_Cutters-Individuals.jpgThey're from newlook.design-a-cake.co.uk. I go to a cake decorating/sugarcraft course once a week and this is the way we've been taught so far. We're making carnations at the moment but i haven't got a cutter to practice with yet. I've ordered one from Alison so i can't wait for it to arrive and get going! I might make up a dummy cake and use the flowers on there. I'm taking the roses in to my next lesson so she can show me how to wire them and the leaves together. It's so exciting ... and addictive! I did have a magazine which i made my first rose from but it's not as good as actually having someone show you. I've often said that if i wasn't on this course, i'd get a video because it's so much easier.

Shainne..the roses are brillant well done did you try dusting them witht he blossom tint to bring out the edges......
They will look great in a little bouquet....have you got your tape to give it a try.....all you do is stretch the tape and then wrap......
By the way Chrissy I always use the individual cutters but I have never tried the other one..I think its what you find easier

Hi Rach,
They were white and i dusted them with yellow. Not sure if i want to try dusting the outside with another colour but I'm really tempted to try! I've got leaves to add as well, so how would i incorporate them into a posy?

i use the indivaidual rose pettal cutters as i find the five petal one hard to pull up to make a realistic rose, and layering. i also find the indivaul cutters can be used to make other flowers which of course is an added bonus, the middle bits of an orchid, for example

With putting then into a posy try and have a large centre rose and work out...also decide what shape you want whether round....triangle etc...and just have a play....dont put too many big flowers together try and in fill with some leaves ..ribbons fller flowers...but put it all into your hand have a look..and see what happens.......thats the fun bit

Oh well Rach, at least the parcel cake will be in different colours this time. I wouldn't mind trying one because it gives people ideas on what you can do and what they can give to others.
Thanks Nauseen! I go to a cake dec/sugarcraft class at the college near us in Bridgend. It's only once a week in the evening but i sooo look forward to each session.

Shianne
Hope you got the wires OK - let me know if you want more. Sounds like the same class I'm doing at Glasgow Food College on Tuesday nights - we're doing carnations this week to put in a pastillage box which we cut out last week. I've loved doing the class and going to miss it when it finishes at the end of March. Hope to go back after summer to do the advanced part.
