Hi Marjorie, Have you checked your private messages at the top of the screen? I sent one the other day. And yes, it does sound like the same course. We did carnations last week and did pastillage heart boxes for valentine's day. I think it's OCN or something like that.

Shianne
Sorry, only your original one with your address seems to be there.
Enjoy your course this evening - really a good grounding in all the basics. I really want to find the time to try out more of the royal icing techniques and using more of the pastillage.

Hi Marjorie,
Sorry, thinking back, I sent one to your home address (the address on the letter). I'll resend it in the form of a private message.
I've only done one thing in pastillage so far and that's a heart box. I'll place a photo of it in the show cakes section seeing as though it's valentine's day!

make it anyway...........do it as a donation for a charity...........they always go down well....dont forget to fill the towers with sweets ..for the extra touch..I have one lady who had the pink one last year and her little girl loved soo much she ordered a year ahead to make sure she would have one for this year..going to do it slightly differently though as she is having a swim party we are going to make it an undersea castle.......

shianne, thankyou for showng the cutters you have, i have bought some pme metal set of 4 cutters, the petals i am ok with, but i am having problems with this cone thing....... and the way to interlock. my roses turn out very stiff standing up and muach too long in the body, i have had loads of attempts now, starting from cone, no bigger than the petal, i am finding the wrird rose hard is there any easier way............. thanks

why r u finding the wired rose hard..is it cos the wire comes through the rose or is it building up the wire...When doing the wire put it into some glu then into the cone and let it harden up before even starting the rest of the flower otherwise you could find the whole thing could slide down..let me know if thats the probs or something else

Hi Chrissy,
I agree with rach about using glue on the wire before inserting into the cone and then waiting for it to harden (preferably overnight). Ideally you should try making a few at a time and then once you've placed the first set of petals on the first cone, leave that to dry and go on to the next one. By the time you've come back to the first one, it should be hard enough for you to add the next layer.
When my petals got too long at the bottom, i just tore the excess off and squashed it neatly at the bottom.
I'm afraid i don't know much about using single cutters. At the moment, i find the five petal one's easier.

Hi, and thanks for the reply's i have took pictures and hoping you can all tell me what i am doing wrong, not sure about the shape of cone, also it has to be no bigger than the petal cutter itself? i am trying to follow orchard book 1, i do let the cone dry overnight, then i put 1 petal, then a set of 2, then 3 petals then 4 or 5, i think i am not putting the petals right, and i also get a tiered effect.......... elongated flower, lol. looks nothing like a rose. also it says to use the same cutter for all layers?? no bigger petals all one size.........i am very confused........ help would be much appriciated, i am stuck.

also i think i will buy the five petal cutter.......... just got the cutters to match the book so it would turn out ok, but it has not...... do they have to sit over the yellow pad with the hole in to get the right size??? thanks..............

Are you using one size cutter for all the layers? You should be starting with smaller medium and then to a larger one. The cone looks ok. MAybe needs a bit more time to dry. Start with 2 smaller so that the cone is covered fully. Hope that helps.

okay Chrissy..I do feel you are being over critical...they are lovely roses most people would be proud of those..
I do see what you mean about the flowers and the body....but when they go into a bouquet you wouldnt see that anyway..so dont worry too much..you have nice delicate flowers there..... I always usethe individula cutters .....what I do is start with the cone and let it dry..then build up my layers......Alos with the individaul petals to get more depth and life into them I cut eah petal and with my ball tool roll it around the middle of the petal so the sides lift up.(does that make sense) so you have a cupped effect let that dry slightly before attaching to the rose also I dust the part I have balled to get a depth of colour....
then basically build up like that..I also tend to use a cutter the same size as the cone to start and then use one size bigger as I get to the outside.....also the outside petal once you have ballled them try and turn back the lip of each petal so it looks like it is bending out......use a thingytail stick...
I hope that makes sense..alos once dry dust the rim of the petal to bring the colour to the tip and then pass through the steam of a boiling kettle,,
I really think you are doing really well keep it up..you will be fine..the roses you have done...wire into a little bouquet once you have dusted and sealed..and you will see the differnece...you have nothing to worry about there
