Another 'golfer' cake - this time made the golfer following Margaret Ford's book - not the easy option!

For some silly reason I made his clothes out of sugardough which is really not 'strong' enough for that and will use flowerpaste next time. Loved the mermaid cake - really dramatic. Agree expressions are difficult when working on such small scale. Don't know how Michelle (see previous postings) manages to get them so realistic. I'm wondering if she prints the faces off on icing sheets and sticks them on? What do you think - or is she just really artistic!

Another action man - again used the little fairies' moulds. Used flowerpaste this time. Had great fun 'painting' the sea.

Hi Marjorie,
That's great! How did you make the wave, is it cake underneath?

I made a gluten free rich fruit cake, cut the top off and built it up for the wave, then marzipanned it and built it up again with marzipan. Covered the cake in marbley blue/white sugarpaste and mixed up some white royal icing in little bowls and added baby blue colour paste and mixed very lightly so it was still all streaky and painted it on with a pastry brush in patches, just adding more blue or white etc. Great fun. Little man has thingytail sticks up through the bottom of his feet into his legs which then go into the cake (customer warned). These sticks help when making him up as well as I stand him on a block of oasis covered with cling film. Beach is marzipan with crushed demerara sugar pressed on.

Thanks for the details Majorie.
I have a rock and roll cake to do this week but it's only going to be a record with the ladies details on the centre label. Then another dreaded fairy house cake and a cupcake cake from one of Debbie Brown's books.

Definitely don't like this one, but it's what the customer wanted - to match the engagement card. Unfortunately the solid black keeps cracking.

with the black to help it ...and with other colours when it cracks I rub trex into it and it takes most of it away and gives it a nice sheen....
Nice writing but again not to my taste as you said but what the client wants the client gets..

Thanks, I'll try that tonight. I don't think I worked it enough - all 2kilos - before I rolled it, and had to use two 12x7 cakes side by side to make up the size and it's on a double-thick card rather than a drum so various factors at work to defeat me. Having said that, she only ordered it last week for this Friday night as her son's girlfriend 'forgot'. On another note, how do you put the www.address at the foot of your messages? If you do it, can I put on www.macakes.co.uk. Thanks.
