That's great Marjorie! Did you make the sleigh?
I'm almost done mine but it's nothing too fancy. I'll post it up when I'm finished.
How is your jewellery going? Have you done anything? I'm really getting into it now. Can't wait for Christmas so I can get my jewellery making book.
I'm thinking of not making cakes as a business anymore. I just don't have time for anything else at home. I've got a few orders for next year but other than that, I think I'm done. I can put all my cake decorating efforts into family birthday cakes. If it was just the decorating bit, then I wouldn't mind but it's making the cakes and getting them covered and making sure they're not lumpy. Anyway ... at least if my advertising stickers are off the car then I can start hooting at people again when they cut me off and not worry about them somehow ending up behind me getting my mobile number!

CAke decorating is hard work and takes forever for very little return.....you really have to love it to do it I think...and I do get frutrasted sometimes but I like the end result..I have nothing booked for next year but have got some enquires but I dont really do it for a living...more pocket money...
The Santa sleigh is fantastic...again so much work involved with the seigh santa and the penguin must have taken ages..well done for even attempting it....I have done so much baking lately all bulk stuff really and still more for next week that I havent had time to do any fancy stuff except for the slipper cake... Oh well got Holly's birthday cake in Jan...still havent decided what to do yet...lol...

Shianne - such a loss if you give up the cake decorating as you are so good at it, however, I would not like to be doing it for profit as I would probably lose the enjoyment of it being a hobby which repays itself. I haven't had any time to think about jewellery and the classes I hoped to start in the new year and over-subscribed, but I'll get round to it sometime. On the cake making - this cake mix from Bako I use is a life-saver - never a miss. I won't go back to creaming and all that nonsense now.
Rach - the penguins were no problem, a white cone with black square pulled at the corners stuck on, feet a blob of yellow with the toes marked with a scalpel, cone of yellow for beak and two black eyes with a thingytail stick. The best bit was dressing them. The sleigh was a bit of a *$%^(" cut out from flowerpaste and somehow stuck together. The travel rug was my first attempt at patterned paste and I will definitely try something like that again. My total time was 8 hours.

The santa sleigh cake was an order which I delivered yesterday - the customer's jaw dropped! and it looks like I've got her daughter's wedding cake order for next year. Tonight I'll be decorating some mini xmas cakes for gifts to work colleagues and nieces. I did make my own christmas cake last weekend to Nigella's recipe (smells wonderful), but whether it even gets decorated or not is another matter!

Very nice Marjorie, I love the Christmas pudding!
I've finished my Christmas cake so I guess I'd better take a photo before it gets eaten. Not sure how it's going to taste, hopefully ok. I'll do that now.
I must admit after me saying I'm sick of cakes, I've been getting organised for a wedding cake I'm doing at the end of January and I'm looking forward to doing it because it's different. I think I mentioned it before, a cake made of donuts? I think it'll look quite good in the end, however bizarre it seems!

Marjorie, where do you get the bako mix from? I did use a mix but then wasn't too happy about the ingredients in it so went back to baking from scratch.

Try www.Bako.co.uk. They are wholesalers, but individuals can purchase from them, although I have to collect my own. Check where your nearest depot is. I've tried other mixes from the supermarket, but they all 'smelled' artificial.
