Thanks! No Rach, it's all freehand. Our cake decorating tutor gave me the idea for the pumpkins and the ghosts but it needed more especially as it was such a big cake compared to hers. I was going to ask you earlier about the flowers on the cake on the previous page. What are they made of? Can i make flowers out of sugar paste? I'll definitely try and be at the chat tomorrow night. I think your cakes are excellent.
And thanks Alison for making the pic smaller.
:-)

Thanks Julie! I'm used to decorating with butter icing and this is the first time i've really done anything with royal icing and sugarpaste. Can't wait to start doing some flowers. Here's another one i did over the weekend for a friend. Funny because your cake on here was also for a boy called Evan who was turning 1! Typical, I've just started selling cakes to friends and I get two orders on the same weekend and nothing for a while before and after. Oh well, they were fun to make anyway. Rach, I'm not surprised you hate run outs! I did my first one on this cake (the dinosaur) and the colours ran on the first one i made. Then when i transferred the next one onto the cake, it cracked in two places. I covered the crack on the neck with a bow and luckily, the crack on the tail couldn't be seen. Then the blue icing started going a patchy white for some reason. Would you know why? I'm not sure i'll be doing it again because of the blue turning like that. Shianne

It ran prob because maybe a too tjin or the lines werent dried enough before putting in the filling..I do not do run outs....I dont like them..too fiddly and easy to go wrong..they do look nice but not for me......also it prob cracked because again wasnt dry enough before moving...really need a heat lamp and that gives it a lovely glossy look...and no I havent got one and I will not be buying one cos I DONT like run outs.......................
Think yours is good though..but me and runouts dont go...

Your welcome. Shianne I forgot to mention - to make these photos smaller yourself do you have a programme like photo impression? I think it comes as standard on most computors. If you have let me know and we shall take it from there

Hi Alison,
Not that i know of. As long as it's easy enough for you to resize, that's ok.

Rach, what do you use in your cakes with the hearts sprouting out the cakes? a type of wire?

Hiya
Yep its silver cake wire...you can get silver coated ones at most cake shops now..I actually got mine from Lindy Smith..she has her own website selling all the stuff she uses in her cakes ..as the parcel cakes are taken from one of her desiagns...from a book called celebrate with a cake....
Its a fab book and its great that if you want something you can call her up or do it over her website and you know its right for its wnat she uses....Unfortunatley for me mine never turn out as nice even tough I have bought the same stuff..
Or another option is to check out the site see what you want and nip down to your local shop and see if they have it there..I cant do that here the locla one is very pricy and doenst have the stuff I need ..so all my stuff comes through mail order....
The gems and hearts and stars are put into a posy pick with oasis fix and you can have the wires longer or shorter depending on the design just cut them down..
The two parcel ones I did one with longer and the second was a larger cake base but more gems and shorter wires but they still curved down..looking at them both now think I should have had some more longer ones in the second one..What do you think..
Anyway i do like to do each cake differently...I never unless I have to make two the same.....
Hope that helps..let me know what you think between the two...you can be very honest I promise I wont cry........
Rach xx

Hi Rach Thanks for the info. I've just had a look at her site now and i was looking at her cakes the other day. The snail one is excellent. I think that's going to be a book i have to get. Isn't it amazing how people come up with these designs on their own. I'm fine at copying but not too good with coming up with my own ideas. I do prefer the longer wires like in the first one and the gems do look lovely. i especially love the gems round the base of the big cake you made. I've got a cake i'm trying to decorate at the moment and have absolutely no idea on what to do with it, especially as i don't really have the money to spend on it. It's just a dummy cake as i'm trying to build up my website. Oh well, off to tescos! Shianne
