hi anyone i have been asked todo a three tier sponge stacked cake.i have read your advice on plastic dowels etc and how to cut them and sorry to sound thick but do i put each cake on a thin cake board the same size as the cake so as not to show when stacked up and how long do i leave each tier before placing ontop of each cake .i have never done a tiered cake before and havent a clue. thanks julie

Ive only done one of these and it was a two tier, Yes you will need a cake board the same size as cake, I think I left mine for about a day before I stacked it, but seeing as ive only done one Im no expert Good luck x

yes board same size as cake..try to leave as long as possible.I always stack the day before the ckae is needed and then do my finishing off bits..but I work on each cake separately before they are stacked...remember to dowel and you will be fine..the dowels just give you the extra hold..just in case

yes...dowels and boards...it's a lot easier than you think...I always put a blob of royal icing in between to hold them together and I leave them until the sugarpaste has set a bit...just so I don't get my finger prints all over (i'm a bit clumsy really)
have you got a box strong enough to get it to the venue too...I have a heavy duty box with a cardboard cut out that the cake board sits in to stop it moving around in transit...I then bring that home and leave normal boxes that they can put each cake in when separated and cut.
