Hi my neighbour also does cake decorating and her lecturer uses boots white denture powder as gum trag and it works great. its also safe as it has to be edible if we use it in our gobs anybody else heard of this

that sounds gross, but you are right, it must be okay...is it the stuff people use to stick dentures to their gums... i will ask my lecturer on thursday

its boots own make white denture powder i think its a fixative its the only one thats white as other makes are sometimes blue and that is no good as it colours the icing but she uses it all the time.its about £1.99 and in a blue and white box its used to make modelling and mexican paste.ill get recipe off her

my lecturer hadn't heard of it, but was very intrigued and she is going to try it...is it the same quantities as gum trag?

heres recipe as promised for modeling paste 30mls cold water 7 1/2mls (1 1/2 tspn) powdered gelatine 500 gms icing sugar 5 level tspn boots denture fixative (blue /white container £1.99) 10mls liquid glucose 6 heaped tspn trex 1 egg white
METHOD place water in a bowl ,sprinkle over gelatine stand in a pan of boiling water untill dissolved add liquid glucose and trex and mix together mix icing sugar and fixative in a bowl add egg white and other liquids and mix untill stringy remove from bowl and knead it with hands divide into small blocks and wrap in cling film seal in an airtight container and refridgerate the paste must be left 24 hrs before use.
