I haven't got any - every time I see them they're very expensive, but am interested if anyone else manages to find a good deal as they are very nice.

hmm you can hire them out from local cake shops ......buying is more expensive especailly if you are not going to use it again..or at the mo squires kitchen have an offer on the separtators which might help....
Also for all the peeps who use squires kitchen icing mixes..like me..lol.......they have an offer on for 7 packets of there mixes which normally rrp @£32 for £15..............plus P+P which is about £4.95 you get royal, runout, pastillage, mmp, flower etc...very tempted offer runs I think till the 20th Aug

prices vary hugely depending on design and style ..very difficult to give a price cos could be way out.....some separators start about £15 upwards and stands can be £30 up to £200......
\sponge cakes also feed less than fruit..I would find out wot ideas he has and base it onto that...a two tier doesnt want to be too big otherwise it could look abit bulkly..a way round this is to do yr normal two tier and have a cutting cake in the kitchen........but best to find out wot he wants style wise etc..

ok this is what he wants, a 12 and 10 inch stacked, white with yellow ribbon and 2 solid hearts( yellow) figure on the top with chocolate writing. I said that'll only feed 100 so i'll do an extra 8" cutting cake. I'm charging £160.00 for that, is that ok?
Thanks guys..

I think that would be an absolute bargain. I did a 12" and an 8" fruit cake, stacked with roses down the side and charged £250 for it. It was a wedding cake and was fruit cake so it would have served about 150 people. I do charge decent prices for my cakes as I work four days a week as a teacher so the cake I spend my day off on has to be worth it. I do get people decide not to go with me because I don't really do birthday price cakes. I think how you price things depends where you see your business going and how much time you have etc. I charged £50 the other day for a 12" iced birthday cake as it didn't take much work to do and I needed the cash for more supplies!
