WWhile on the course, i'v been learning a lot about the legal side of business, does anyone knows that it is illegal to do any character cakes without permission from the characer ppl? EG, th wilton tins have licence only to be used in the usa, you can't use it here. Things like winnie the poog, and spiderman or any other tv characer has copyrught on them, i know some of you guys do them b ut i'd be careful and maybe not put them on website, I mean there has been very few legal procecusions but if someone notices you and report you , it can be real bad. Read here... www.makeacakehouston.com/id26.htm

the best way to do it is if you have the pan you have bought the pan and you can use it for home use...but when you show on the website if you name it dont say tigger or winnie the pooh..for example just say a mermaid cake rather than little mermiad...thats one way round it....
Or when someones orders you can say we cant do winnie the pooh but we can do a likeness of it..sounds silly but it covers you abit more

Hi Nauseen, it's been a while!
I don't think they'd go for us little cake makers when there are people like The Cake Store in London doing loads of copyright cakes. It's not something I worry about a all.
