Anyone plan on going to Birmingham in November. I'm planning on going down on the Saturday and returning home on the Sunday. Some good workshops and demos planned. For more info see www.ichf.co.uk. It would be good to catch up with some of you. Marjorie

Which ones of us would it NOT be good to catch up with ;-)
I'm going. I've decided to enter the wedding cake competition! Eeek. I worked out it's actually cheaper to enter a competition than pay for both days. I've decided to stay over somewhere and go to lots of workshops and demos. Last year I went and it's an absolute SCRUM of fat ladies (sorry, but they were really very large) shoving and pushing, elbows and wheelchairs knocking you over everywhere. It had calmed right down by the afternoon however. The sugarwork on display was very clever and skilled stuff but it was quite 'samey' I'm hoping to see something a bit more 'wow' this year. Anyone else go last year? What did you think?

Wow - world bodypainting championships, I bet there's some wonderful stuff to look at there. i liked the stuff that was in fashion a few years back where they painted naked people with 'clothes' very clever - you should get into that!

I would love to go but it's just the cost of the travel as well as the entrance fee.

The entrance fee is about £7 which isn't too bad. Obviously the travel is a factor - it's going to cost me about £60 - could you book a train ticket in advance?

I suppose I could but it's still quite a lot especially when you don't really have any to spend anyway.

If anyone still interested, find out where your local British sugarcraft Guild meeting is, you pay £11 for the membership or they might be willing to let you pay a one day visitor fee and they are arranging coaches to go there. mine is and they are charging £30.00 for the coach return travel plus entrance fees.

Are you going then? I'm entering the wedding cake competition, working on my entry now - it's technically not very good; piping work is bad etc. but I'm enjoying making it and I worked out that if you entered it was cheaper than buying two days worth of tickets so I thought I'd do a cake. Do let me know if you're going to be there too!

wow, emma, that's really good, hope you get an award or two I 'm not going with the bsg, I missed some of the meetings and thus the deadline to pay etc...but may be tempted to ask hubby to take me there.

Persuade hubby - it's great! Even if you don't buy anything the cakes are wonderful to look at. HAve you got this month's edition of 'Cake' magazine? The winners from last year are in there. There's no way I'll win anything as they're looking for things I don't do - complicated royal icing stringwork etc. But I want to challenge myself to make a cake that I want to make without having to worry about customers!
