Hi Nauseen & Rach,
Thanks Nauseen, but i managed to persuade her to take the single power ranger shape so i can hire a tin for it. Much easier as i've never painted designs on a cake. One day though!
I've got a Dora cake to do next month! Are you hiring a tin Nauseen?
Thanks for all the photos of the Madagascar cake Rach, i'll definitely try the painting at some stage.

LOL, Marjorie!! It's just the dora the explorer cartoon character from nick junior. Apparently very popular with kids, spanish speaking lil girl.
Shianne, i bought some of the wilton character tins way back in april last year from a canadian shop. Also i did not meant painting on the actual cake. You cut the shape rom rolled sugarpaste then position on the cake. For e.g. I'm trying to do my dora cake with fondant, so will trace and prick fondant on cake then try to cut shapes from the coloured sugarpaste and stick in place. It sounds easy but when i eventually get t do it i might be a bit of a challenge. Got my buttercream if it goes pear shape!

ooh, that sounds like hard work nauseen!! i don't think i could do that with the power rangers because they have so much detail and it wouldn't be worth what i'd charge for it. Good ol' buttercream!

they way to do those wilton 2d tin as with my minnie mouse ..scooby doo etc is once you have covered your cake in fondant get your tin and press it back over the fondant to get your impression back..okay you will have to smooth your sides again..and they never go back as sommth but you have your definition back again.... Then use your tin or stencil you have made whatever you prefer..I tend to use the tin and roll out your icing say the black icig for minnies ears then place on the tin and cut round..then lift off and place on your cake.....you can do that for your main bits then build up yout extra bits like eyes etc..then outline them with your small hole in your sugar shaper..
Hope that helps
Rach x

Thanks Rach, it's a great idea using the tin to imprint the design again.
