P.S. Little girls modelled with Artista Soft that I've heard people raving about, a non-edible but non-toxic material a bit like fine-textured papier mache. slightly plasticky feel. Certainly lightweight and sticks easily, so heavy heads don't fall off and legs don't squash down short and fat, but still cracks as much as sugarpaste - at least when I'm using it. Must find out the tricks to improve that. Any ideas?

Not wonderful but made 8, yes 8, of these for playgroup bazaar. Unfortunately didn't take pics of the first four which were slightly better (design-wise anyway) than these. Morrison's 8" square rich fruit cake (only 3.99) cut into four and each covered separately.

PS Used plenty of sparkle, mainly Disco blue violet hologram which is actually almost white, plus gold glitter in piping jelly for the bells and green shimmer for the biggest holly leaves. They don't show on here but did look effective under artificial light.

My son's long-awaited birthday cake. He started asking for a 'Totoro cake' in July and didn't change his mind at all....5 months is a long time to wait for a two-year-old! This is a character from a famous, popular Japanese animated film (anime) about a mythical creature. I might try the neko-bus (an even more peculiar creature from the film - look it up on Yahoo images) next year although at the moment he has told me he wants a 'Macream' cake (MacQueen from Disney Cars). Anyway, a pink marbled, chocolate cake (and forgot to reduce the sugar to compensate for white chocolate being much sweeter than the dark in the recipe..uuurrggh....), piped buttercream topping with star nozzle for fur effect. Artistic license to have umbrella dark purple instead of black, as I didn't feel Totoro colours are particularly appetising!

Proud Mummy just had to post this one.........my son's first attempt to do a sugarpaste cake. Bit wobbly but not bad as he's only just turned three. It was a chocolate Brownie he covered.

Better late than never.........Christmas cake I did for evening class. We were so busy before Christmas I didn't finish it until 27th December! Run-out collar (and yes, it did break in places when I lifted it off, had to stick bits together with Royal icing) in pastel colours, much to the horror of our teacher who is very traditional, on rich purple base. M&B Amethyst sugarpaste from Design-a-Cake online, if anyone's interested. It's quite a soft sugarpaste but easy to work and they do some nice strong colours.
