don't know how anyone would want to eat a cake covered in royal icing though, it must be like eating glass it's so brittle

its just standard white (or sometimes ivory as its a bit cheaper at the minute) coloured with various different colours of brown...it takes ages and loads of colouring...and then i just rub a bit of white fat over it to give it a shine

here are some of my recent cakes...i was a bit disappointed with this washer cake as i couldn't get the icing smooth for love nor money...anyway, the lady was very pleased with it and has asked for another one for this weekend

this week I've got a chocolate cake with chocolate paste to do...never used that before, so hopefully it will go okay and next week a wedding cake, which i'm really looking forward to.

I think the cakes are brilliant...I love the handbag one..how was it to do.....and the one which stands out for me with the colours and detail is the blue stripy one..love it....how did you do that one

Handbag was fairly easy...it was a carrot cake underneath, so held up pretty well...generally the stripey ones are easy to do - the trick when piping royal icing is to pull it away from the cake and then let it more or less fall back to get it straight...the trauma with this one was i had made the royal icing with a proper egg white rather than merriwhite and it went really really stiff...i persevered for ages with it until my hand was killing me and then watered it down a bit which made it easier, but you can see where its a bit wiggly is where the icing was a bit too stiff.

oh I like that.....i cant see very well with the piccie but what have you done on the edge and the board ..it looks stunning really different effect.

did you find them easy to remove from the backingpaper,..this is my prob some I find no probs others I really struggle with..
