heart boards VERY expensive...but that's what she wanted and she's paying for it so hey ho.
I copied Thomas from Debbie Browns favourite character cakes book, but think I would do it different if i had to do it again...she tends to stick bits of paste on and build it up like patchwork and I'm not convinced you get an airtight seal on the cake doing that, think if i did it again i'd cover the whole thing in the blue and then add the other bits on top, but it was much easier than I expected...need a proper strip cutter though as I did the red and yellow trimmings using my sugar gun and they aren't neat at all...i hate doing fiddly things like that, i'm just too clumsy

mould and cutters too...when i use the cutter, i cut them in half and then stick them together with royal icing...find it easier than shaping them as one piece

I was scared stiff when asked for eeyore (the woman gave me a picture of what she wanted), but he was very easy...much easier than I expected...I did carve the head and body separately, but when it was altogether realised I could have just cut out a big figure of 8 shape and put a little mound on top for the top of his head...anyway, they were very pleased with it...only took a couple of hours and most of that was colouring icing!

hairspray lettering are runouts...but the lettering on the fairy cake are fmm funky letter tappits, fairly new out, I got them from cake international at birmingham, then just dusted the top half with green and bottom with pink petal dust
toadstool was okay...I think the top looks a bit rubbish as the book said to tuck the paste underneath, but I hadn't rolled it out far enough and also didn't think that the cake would stay moist as it wasn't all covered, so I just turned it upside down and put a layer across the bottom...the cakes are quite small, so not at all heavy...and there's no jam/buttercream layer either....
I really like using royal icing for finishing touches...and it's something I probably never would have done if I hadn't gone to college...doing collars and extension work this year....very scary!
