The drapes were made with a mix of 1ml:50g Gum Tragacanth to sugarpaste, kneaded well and left in a polybag overnight. Very easy to work with using Trex on hands and non-stick board. Some I rolled with textured rollers and dusted with lustre. Lettering was all done with the FMM tappits.

Majorie - great cakes. Can I ask how the sugarpaste/gum tragacanth mix compares to mexican modelling paste? Is it very fine grained or does it have a tendency to crack? I'm always on the hunt for the perfect modelling/shaping material and while I adore mexican paste it is quite pricey.

I haven't actually used proper Mexican paste so can't compare, but I didn't have any problems at all with the mix or having it crack up - even the rope worked well (using Lindy's tip of dunking it in water to chewing gum consistency before putting through shaper), and in fact last night I was playing around with the remnants and it is still very workable. I definitely think the Cooken/Trex has a lot to do with it as I seem to get through loads.
