Hi there everyone, a new member here! Would like to congratulate you on a great site, fab idea. I love cake decorating and have made a few cakes, however I have a problem with rolling out coloured sugar paste. I use icing sugar to stop sticking etc but it covers the coloured paste white. I have read that you can use white fat, i assume stuff like trex, but how do i use it, what is the best way. Do I spread it over my work surface like i would icing sugar??? Sorry for being a bit dim here but would welcome any advice out there. Having a mare with black paste at mo!!!!!! Jo x

Hi jo, Did you colour the paste urself. If you did well done, i tend to buy the red ans black ones. and i only use icing sugar to roll out the paste. The paste do need to be faily dry i mean not sticky and to do that i normally leave it out for 5 mins. It's work for me but it also depend what paste you use, and your work atmosphere, too cold or too hot?

Hi Nauseen,
I tend to use pre coloured black paste, but the other colours in do myself, and yes they r a bit sticky. Will try to leave for 5mins or so before rolling as u have suggested. Do you do that with white paste too? I m always scared that it will dry out too much. Always buy prepared 'regal ice', have you made your own from scratch, is it successful? Seen recipes but never been brave enough to try. Is it worth trying or too time consuming? Is it cheaper to make or just less hassle to buy?
Thanks for all your help
Jo x

Hi Jo, I was tauht how to make it but the amount of time you put into it, is not worth it. Is is so cheap to buy anyway. I tend to use tesco brand for all my celebration cakes on regal ice for wedding. My white paste i never had problems with. Only the black and red but it was ok when i used icing sugar to dust lots of it on the workmat. I also use the wilton cut and roll mat. Hope this helps.
