I am a little confused, as i have only made victoria sandwich cakes befroe in 2 of the 7 inch tins about 1 and 1/2 inch deep. i think i messed up with my valentine's cake as it was only about 2/1/2 inch deep. i am thinking perhaps i should have made 2 seperate cakes as i only have one tin and then sandwiched them together, anyway what depth is good for a single cake please.

It can vary..depends wot u like really..usually about 3 inches or abit less or sometimes abit more..depending on you filling etc....there is no hard and fast rule..
I always bake in a single tin then cut the cake open and fill with buttercream and then cover in my fondant

I alwas find if I make a deep sponge cake and cut it in half it never seems as nice as doing two cakes and sandwiching together. has anyone else found this.?

No I havent..strange how we all have our different ways.. The thing I will say is that if you look for invita tins (not sure if I have spelt that right) Ali will know..I think she sells them but the solid tins not the loose base ones...I prefer the solid ones..Once you have a good tin they last forever and the cake bakes better..The thinner the tin more chance of burning... For an 8 inch tin you shoulf be looking again roughly about £10 ish for a round..other shaped would be more expensive..... Also when using one tin you have only got one outside on the cake rather then two..when using two separtate tin..as I trim my cakes to cut the crusts off so nicer to eat..If you did that with two cakes you wouldnt have much cake left.....
Hope that helpssif not sorry...

Sorry - Im not trying to turn this in to a selling site - honest!!
I had a customer ask me the other day for a tin - She didn't want to pay Invicta prices as she was only going to use it once - so I was able to get a cheaper tin in for her.
I must say myself I was very impressed - Maybe Chris I don't know how quickly you need the tin but that could be your tester product?
