Hi,
Does anyone know why my icing has lost it's colour? I only did it a few nights ago and i've iced stripes down the side of the cake. I've used three different colours and all of them seem to be fading or have gone patchy.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Shianne

Hi Rach
Yes, it's royal icing and they were paste. The colours are dark pink, yellow and pale orange.

I've never had this happen to me - the colour fades very slightly when the icing dries but I've never had patchy - unless they're still in the process of drying and some bits are dry and some still wet? Maybe the paste has gone out of date? You could always attempt a rescue by painting a paste/vodka wash over the faded parts or painting them with lustre dust/alchohol?

Okay I have had feedback from a cake specialist on this one....here is the answer he gave..
The icing is losing its colour as their has been too much colour added to the royal icing.....if too much colour is added it gives out a chemical reaction which causes the icing to look patchy..
There you go better late than never..I hope that helps
