Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had any instructions on how to go about making a flower paste poinsettia or if anyone knew of any books that have instructions in.
I have been looking online but with not much luck and I'm hoping to make some for a christmas cake in the next couple of weeks.
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks! Jenny

Lesley herbert's Complete Book of Sugar Flowers and Mary Ford's Decorative Sugar flowers for Cakes both have poinsettias in. Wired flowers for proper permanent displays. If the cake does not need to be too realistic and you wish the flowers to be edible, use a holly leaf cutter (or two/three in different sizes if you have them) and cut a layer of leaves in green and a couple of layers in red plus a few little modelled stamens and put together directly on the cake. (Look at a real poinsettia for stamens - red, yellow or green balls with a groove up the middle are one kind but there are many). They are very effective, reasonably realistic and nowhere near as difficult as flower paste wired ones.

Hi everyone, Just wanted to thank everyone for their advice on the poinsettia it was a great help! I bought the cutters in the end and they luckily came with instructions that were quite easy to follow! I have posted a picture of the finished cake - I was really pleased with it as it was my first attempt at sugar flowers! - can't wait to try some more now!

That is just lovely, no-one would think they are a first attempt. Poinsettias are so fiddly to wire together at all, never mind realistically, you have done an amazing job there. Roses and carnations are easy to do if you feel like something a bit less challenging next time, but your flowers are so good you could go right ahead and try anything difficult. Do please make some more and post the pics!

Thanks everyone! I'm just trying to decide what to do with the flowers now - it seems such a shame to throw them away but I know they won't keep.
I will definitely post some more pics when I try some more flowers although I'm just in the process of buying a house and *should* be moving soon so might be a little while before I get a chance to do anymore but as soon as I do I'll put some pics up!
