Hi
Has anyone used and worked with buttercream paste..it can be rolled out and usec to cover a cake like marizpann etc...
I am wondering as I have a buttercream cake to do for next week and want to make it smooth...just wondering if this could be an option.
Is it the same taste as buttercream ..is the texture heavier and advice please.
Rach x ;D

I have covered a cake in buttercream - 2 icing sugar to 1 butter and a little vanilla essence, or other flavouring/colouring if required. After coating, put in fridge to harden, then draw over a spatula dipped in hot water to smooth off. Some others suggest putting another thin layer of buttercream on top of the original one to give a smoother finish, but I haven't bothered to try that.

Do you find you get crumbs in it though

Not too bad if the cake is still quite hard from being in the fridge before coating. Applying a second thin coat should certainly get round this possible problem, if you do happen to pick up some with the first coat.
