Hi i have bought a lily former and cutter thingy, and a butterfly they are hawthorn hill, although i have watched the demo on pc they make it look so easy, my paste gets stuck, then will not come out, lol and leaves no detailing veining, they use PASTELLO. whatever that is, i have tried sugarpaste, flower and mexican and i wondered if this certain paste would be better to use, if anyone has used it........... thanks

I don't know what pastello is and I don't have lily formers and cutters - however I do have rose cutters and used them successfully a few weeks back. I used squires flower paste and rolled in on a heavily icing sugared board - I rolled it so thin that you could see the icing sugar through it. Then I dip the cutting part of the cutter into a bit of icing sugar and cut the shape out. I use the blunt end of a paintbrush to poke it out of the cutter. If it's very humid where you are this could be causing your problems. If the thing you're using has some kind of plunger which imprints veining you may not be pressing hard enough with it or your paste may be too hard to take the imprint. Good luck and I hope I've helped even if just to say - sugar paste can be a bugger - keep at it!

hiya Chrissy..it might be the warm weather..but I have the lily cutter set and use squires flower paste but wot I do is dust the formers first and also dont roll the paste so thin as you would for roses as lilys do have a slightly thicker leaf. Never had a problem with them but do dust em then press down to cut the shape then I pick the whole thing up which is now cut and then use my finger to press down to get the veining effect..then it taps out..
Hope that helps

Hi Chrissy,
Pastello is similar to pastillage (some say it's nicer to work with) but it takes much longer to dry. I also have the Hawthorne cutters but haven't even opened them yet!
Let us know how you get on.

If this stuff is anything like pastillage then it is probably quite a bit more sticky than flower paste.

Thanks, all sorry not been around much, i have been so busy with family visiting and other stuff and i found out i am going to be a grandmar....... did manage to make a very qucik father's day cake from the kids, but nothing like i really wanted to make. The lily and flies i am still having probs with the paste i think is too dry, i am not getting print marks and then if i try again it gets stuck . so put it on hold for a moment, while i try to rethink where i am going wrong.
