Hi, I'm going to try and make either stargazer or cala lilies for a wedding cake I'm making for May, I've looked all through my books and I can find instructions for everything but! Does anyone know where I can find instructions (simple!) or can offer me any advice? I'm no real expert at flowers so this really would be a baptism of fire! Stephanie

Rach Very impressive . . . I'm sure mine won't look like anything as good! They do look like the general shape of what I'm looking for, the ones I'm hoping to try and do are sort of pinkish inside each petal with black dots on the pink! (Does that make sense?) Not being an expert on lilies, I don't know if this is just this particular variety but I suppose if I got the basic shape right I could then decorate them as I liked although I'm not entirely sure yet quite how! In an ideal world and because my flower skills are about zilch (!) I'd like to try and find the exact instructions on how to make the lilies and then I'd be able to follow it exactly re colours etc. I know what they look like, they are in the picture on a wedding cake on the first page of this website, I just don't know how to recreate the effect! www.needacake.com/index.aspIf you could help me with your instructions, I'll give it a go! Thanks Stephanie

Hiya Stephanie
These are the same type of lilies just coloured differently..I wanted white lilies for my wedding so did the sbove but the same lilies can be made and dusted with your pink blossom tint and then paint on your dots.. I used a really good mould but it is an inflexible mould..you can get some very nice flexible moulds now......makes it easier to get the paste out..but must admit never had any probs with these cuttters and used then loads......
They are the Hawthorn Hill lily cutters and lily leaf cutters..they are a cutter and veiner all in one.....so bascially roll out your sugar florist paste..must use this paste and then cut out your petal and press down to vein it..then insert your wire..the moulds when I bought them also came with a former to lay the petals on so they dried in the right postion. This was along time ago..so might have changed now...
Then once the petals are dry you can dust them then arrange with your caylx which is also supplied with the set you start with the three larger width petals arrange in you hand witht eh caylx and then brin the other three petals in the gaps behind each of the other petal

then get your florist tape and tape then wires up and there you have your lily..then boil your kettle and pass the lily through the steam of the kettle to glaze it and seal the colour .....
I hope this makes sense.........if not just shout and I will try and explain it further...

Thanks Rach, I'll try and track down those cutters and veiner from somewhere and give it a go! Hopefully I should be able to find them on the internet somewhere, if you know of anywhere that sells them I'd be grateful.
I've never painted on flowerpaste before, so that kinda worries me slightly as does passing the lily through the steam . . . but hey onwards and upwards . . . I'll give it a shot and see what happens. I might need to come back and ask again if that's alright!
Thanks for your help, I'll let you know how I get on, when (if) I get them made I'll post a picture if I can work out how to do it!
