Hi All,
I've been asked to make a chocolate wedding cake using white chocolate tubes, I've made a milk chocolate one before and coated it in chocolate fudge before decorating it with the tubes. Does anyone have any ideas what I can coat this cake in before applying the white chocolate tubes
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
Julie ;)

Hi Julie,
Sorry I can't answer your question but I've seen a cake with the white chocolate tubes and it looks brilliant. Do you make the tubes yourself and if so, how do you make them?
Thanks, Shianne

Hi Shianne, No, I don't make them myself I buy them ready made. I don't think they would look as neat if I tried to do them myself. Although they are quite expensive, it save's a lot of time. Thanks for asking! Julie

Oh ok. Do you have to buy them from a specialist shop? I wouldn't mind making a cake like that one day. Do you make a lot of cakes to sell?
It certainly is an addictive hobby!

You can buy the chocotubes or cigerellos (not sure if that is spelt right) at squires kitchen but only from there shop..or from sugarshack on the internet and design a cake on the internet....they are about £24.00 upwards depending on quality and one box with do normally an 8-9 inch round cake...... With regards to covering the cake in white icing you could use white buttericing and insted of butter use white fat...its used quite abit in the states...makes a lovely white icing.... hope that helps

Hi Rach,
Thanks for that!
I've been making cakes for about 10 years but mainly for family and friends, only recently I have been making them to sell but I never know if I charging enough especially with the work that goes into some of them.

I know the feeling..post some pics up would love to see them..I have again been doing it off and on since I was at college..stopped for a while while I had my daughter..but all came back when she started wanting cakes for birthday..then word has got around and people asking for caked..finally got myself a little business going in July this year combined with face painting..a new line for me..
October has been extrememly busy for me got a cake to finish for Saturday and hopefull I shall get a bit of a break..It still is only pocket money for me but at least I am legal and insured..so no come backs.....
I never know how much to charge normally average about £40.00 a cake but that does vary depending on the cake and amount of work.....for what I put into them though I should be charging triple that but then that would be too much...
I have a local cake store who I compare prices with they noramlly charge about £60 on average..so I base it on that.......had no complaints soo far....but some people do object to paying that for as they say ...just a cake......well if they think that they can go to the supermarket and buy one there....wont be as nice..
My daughters birthday is coming up soon and I said to her pick what you want..shouldnt have said that.. She has asked for a 4 tier pink princess castle...........oh well first time for that..it will be good practise..

Hi Rach,
I'll try to post some photo's later, I'm not very good on the computer so I might have to wait for my husband to come home and do it for me.
Do you run your business from home? I would love to start my own proper cake business from home but wouldn't know where to start.
Julie

Hi Julie
Yes I set up my own small business at home....very easy to do...just contact inland revenue...very helpful...contact enviromental health for a home check..and then take out public and product liability to cover yourself and products and people coming into you home.....Think of a name and you are all set..You cannot advertise or do anything ie business cards etc without doing inland revenue if they catch u , you could get a fine of £100.00
