In the new 3rd International cake decorating book they mention using a pasta machine to roll regular thicknesses of modelling paste for drapes etc. Has anyone tried this? Don't want to spend a fortune buying one if it's a waste of time.
Thanks

I havent..I can see how it would work well..but the modelling pastes rolls really well anyway..but I suppose if you put it through the machine it will fold and drape itself ..whereas if you roll you will then have to lift and try and achieve the draping effect yourself... Wonder how much they are

These are very popualr - they had them at all of the shows last year showing you what you can do with them - very good. They are quite expensive though

I think they were £110 at the show - I know you can get them a lot cheaper though.

Argos list pasta machines at 14.99 but they seem to be out of stock all over the country. John Lewis list one at £45 and I might look in Glasgow at the weekend and try places like Debenhams etc.

Hand-crank models of pasta machines can make your hands ache. Invest in the electric ones. They are excellent for making fondant ribbons or taking most of the work out of rolling gumpaste. You must grease the rollers prior to adding the pastes, and clean them very well after using it.

I finally got round to using my pasta machine yesterday and it was great for rolling out long strips of flower and 50:50 paste. It certainly gives uniform thicknesses rather than when rolling out by hand. Ideal for flower/leaf cutting and for drapes.
