Hi all - long time since I last posted, but I've been reading your with interest and am very impressed with all the gorgeous pictures you've been posting. I've had several enquiries from people wanting wedding cakes couriered to them - one of them would be tiered and the other in the shape of a steam engine. I have not found a company that couriers cazkes - if any of you have used anyone and have tips on how to go about it and details of charges etc. I'd be really interested to hear about it. Also my web-site is properly up and running now: www.emmascakes.co.uk I'd love to know what you think!

Wow Emma, your cakes are brilliant!! You must be very artisitic. Do you come up with the ideas yourself or are a lot from books? I'm good at copying or adapting but not so much on coming up with my own. What happened to your site name 'Crumbs!'? Can i steal it ;D!
Oh, sorry, don't know much about couriering.

I decided not to use the name Crumbs! because a cake company in Birmingham is called Crumbs, I wasn't sure about the legalities of using someone elses name - plus I wanted a web-site which was easy to remember for people and I couldn't have crumbs.co.uk - you're welcome to use the name if you don't mind about the Birmingham thing.
Thanks for the nice comments about my cakes. I sometimes get hints of ideas for other people - the snowflake one was inspired by some swirls I saw on Colette Peter's cakes. I used to do a lot of pottery and jewellery making so I actually get a lot of ideas from the Ceramics Review magazines!

Hi emma
Love the new website.....beautiful cakes..i have ordered the collette peters book for xmas.....I did find out about courieiring cake and most companies will not insure but will carry at your own risk..ie parcelforce, postavan etc.........I have decided its not worth the risk..but a lady on ebay uses postavan for all her wedding cakes but they are fruit ones, sponge would not hold up.. another company does post novetly cakes using parcelforce but again at own risk..
Hope that helps abit

Hi Emma Its www.postvan.com hope thats helps..I know the lady who does wedding cakes on ebay uses this company and as yet have had no probs.......she only posts out fruit cake..maybe its me but I would still worry about the packing side..maybe bubble wrap and double cavity boxes...and double those up....... Another option would be to use a small courier company in your area or a taxis firm etc who would deliver for you within a certain radius of your home for a set fee.......like if you where delivering..see what I am getting at...not soo much packaging involved.. Hope that helps you....

Sorry for posting the same type of question again but I have a lady in Yorkshire who is insistent that she wants me to do her wedding cake despite me expressing all my reservations about posting a cake. I have contacted the postvan site you've mentioned here for a quote. I'd just feel happier if one of you guys had used them or if you've used someone else that you were happy with. Any advice much appreciated.

I know the lady on eday uses post a van for all her wedding cakes she sells on ebay and has never had a prob...no breakages and good service..
I found when I researched it they where the best in price and also not that many companies will accept cakes.....but the company will say at your own risk to cover themselves so make sure yr insurance covers you..or something is written into the agreement about poss damage etc.

Well they got back to me today and said they didn't courier cakes. So I emailed again and said I knew they did. So they've emailed back saying to phone them, which I'll do on Friday (my day off work) Very weird and frustrating!

Just spoke to Postvan and they say they used to courier cakes but a wedding cake got ruined whilst in storage at the depot so now they won't do them anymore. So now I'm really stuck - I've contacted three local firms and they're not interested...
