Well, it was worth going to. Not large, maybe 50 cakes/flower displays,as sugarcraft has yet to take off in Japan, but some really exquisite work. Those who do sugarcraft tend to be dedicated and if you have seen the stuff produced for UK shows by Japanese ladies, usually delicate and full of skilled piping work. I attach a photo to whet your appetites, the rest will have to wait - probably until next week after we get back to the UK.

Some more pics to drool over. The very Japanese-looking cake - my favourite out of the whole lot - was absolutely perfectly executed and all the pattern was piped directly onto the sugarpaste with Royal icing. I would not have believed such a piece could be created by mere human hands. Every little spot was perfectly circular and no little points sticking up or anything. The fans on the mauve wedding cake were as thin as paper parchment. The music box is entirely made of sugar. making you wait right until the end for this one....

those are superb...I now have high hopes for my royal icing class that I am attending!!! Ha Ha there is no chance...it took us all last weeks class to draw a circle and divide it into 12 sections...lets just say some of the people on the course are not that bright (pregnant dogy).
