Hi Marjorie, read about rolled buttercream technique a while back but although Rolled buttercream is easier/faster to make than Fondant, it is softer and is hard to pick up and place on the cake because it tears and stretches too easily. It does need a lot of practice. However if anyone else is still in terested and so Marjorie does not have to scan the wwhole page here is where you can read about it: www.baking911.com/decorating/cakes_buttercream.htm#rolledAnd here for the recipe: www.baking911.com/recipes_oldsite/cakes_btrcrm_rolled.htmAnd by the way i love this site as ther is so much on there. Enjoy!

If I can get a cheap flight from Glasgow to Gatwick(?), accommodation etc. I'll think about it.

Wow Marjorie!! Is that where you're from? Glasgow is miles away from london, i guess it be difficult, i'm sure if you get something like BMI or one of the charter airlines you'd be able to get a cheap tkt not sure what's the going rate for a BB though. Let us know you're plans. Plans are changing for me however coz might be going to mauritius around that time for a niece's wedding.

Actually live in Motherwell which is 10 miles s/e of Glasgow - aren't we all spread out round the country! If it's a choice, I'd rather be in mauritius as well, but it might be nice to have a weekend away in the spring even if it is in England.
I had a look at the baking911 site and it is good - just going to pop back in while it's still my lunch break.

I managed to go up to the NEC too and thought it was disappointing, but it was lovely to see Emma's cake in the flesh so to speak it was fab it really stood out from the rest and all though her name wasn't on it I knew straight away which one was hers. Emma when I was viewing your cake everyone one who was viewing it the same time was commenting on how spectacular it looked. You did a real good job on it, well done!

I would love to go to this event but none of my regular friends are interested in cake decorating and I didn't want to go on my own. Thanks for the tip Nauseen. I was asked to join the guild some time ago but have not done anything about it. Will now look into it. Who knows .... maybe I will see some of you there?

Hi Lindy, I'm sorry if i haven't welcomed you sooner, since the advert on ebay, we're getting a lot of responses and with working full time, i'm loosing count! Lindy, I went to the squires show the year b4 all by myself, on my fist train trip! Believe me if you wait for someone to go with you, you'll never be able to enjoy these shows, and as it happened i met some girls on the train going there anyway! I went to the nec show last year and would definitely recoment it!

About Cake 2007 - who's going this year? I'll be going to the NEC - not sure which day yet. I went on Sunday last year with a few friends but several things had sold out by then so might try the Saturday this year. I am sure I can get my parents to babysit. Anyone entering the competitions this year? Emma? Would love to see another cake from you. Diane

Please ignore the above message in this thread - I have now started a new thread for this year's Cake show, to save getting too confused.
