I had put the show on the back burner what with everything else I've had going on recently, but I may try and get down now. Is there a 'best day' to be there?

I would go down on Sunday if you're choosing one day - the Saturday was heaving and I understand Sunday is quieter, also the cakes are judged on Sunday morning so you'll get to see the winners which is interesting.

I almost don't want to say - last minute nerves!!
I'm entering wedding cakes and it's a four tiered cakes, dark jewel colours, with a tall topper which includes a large hollow red and gold ball. Lots of EdAble Art 'Golden Ginger'!! I'm not confident it will survive the journey ...

I'll take a picture once it's finished - sometime this evening hopefully! Wish me luck, I'm sick with nerves about it now. I'm looking forward to the show though. I'd like to take photos of all the cakes and post them on here - woudl that be possible? Is that allowed? Would you guys even like that?

Emma
Best wishes for the weekend and hope the cake does well in the competition. Even if it doesn't win (going on past results), it will definitely make an impression on the audience, and give you another 'exhibition piece' for your folio. I'll bet you'll drive more carefully than you've done since passing your test to get it there in one piece! Sorry I won't be there, but it was going to be too expensive and tiring just to get down for the one day - perhaps next year I'll be better organized.

Yes, it was the one with the gold sphere on top - unfortunately they were rushing us to set up after taking half an hour of our time fannying about with registration. The organisation of it was very poor.
I'm interested in your thoughts about the differences between the NEC show and the Squires one - I found it really disappointing this year. I went to some demos and workshops and was disappointed with all of them - they were for complete beginners, but this wasn't advertised so I was bored.
When's the Squires Show? How's it different?

Glad I didn't come down to Birmingham then! I would like to visit the Squires place sometime as they do seem really organised.
Someone asked a while back about coating a cake with buttercream. I found details of 'rolled buttercream' in the International School of Sugarcraft Book 3 by Mgt Ford and Nick Lodge. It seems to be a popular thing in American cakes. If it's still wanted, I'll try and scan the pages in.
