Hi, I'm doing a heart shaped 8" cake for someone and it'll be decorated in red and white hearts with red and white feathers, and wire spirals, coming out the top. i wanted to charge 35 pounds but then i looked at the site below and saw how much they charged for an 8" heart shaped cake. And they're based in London! I gather they make most of their money on their wedding cakes which is possibly why these can be priced so low. Not sure. How much would you charge for a cake i've described above? www.securecakestore.com/acatalog/8_Inch_Heart.htmlshianne

Hi, Shianne, I would usullay make sure that all my ingredients and things used in the cake the prices of those is incorporated. Plus if it takes about 1 hr to cook i would add another 2 hours to decorate. I would multiply this by 6-7 pounds and add the whole thing. Mind you i'd only work the price out this way once for my 3 tiered cake. But 35 is good price.

thanks nauseen. i thought 35 was ok. i was even going to add a bit more to it. would you like to have a look at my website when you have a chance and see if i'm charging a reasonable amount for my other cakes? (and anyone else please!). I just don't want them too expensive so if you come out with higher prices, then that's good. www.cakefancy.co.ukThanks!

Where did you put the prices shianne? I have to go now, will come back later or tomorrow.
Re putting prices up.. It depends what sort of decorations, but no if you are confident go for it even 45 i would say,,, coz all the feathers etc, Ols they don't do many red cakes...

Likewise, I price all the ingredients and packing etc. and multiply time hrs x £5 as they've been for workmates so far, but if they were for outsiders, I'd probably add a bit more if they were really one-offs.

that's what i was thinking, because this one is for a friend and i wondered what to charge when i put it on the website. also, seeing that cake advertised for only 20 pounds, makes it seem like i'm charging a fortune! thanks marjorie.
nauseen, once you click on a photo of the cake, it'll have the price in the new window along with the larger photo of the cake.

Shianne
That price in London is a good price but to be honest I think that is a very old style cake ..not many people would go for that.....they all want something abit different these days ..so if they want different they have to pay for it.. I feel £35.00 is a good price ..I charge £45.00 for the parcel cake I do and that has wires and gems out of the top..You will find that once youhave costed in your topper with the feathers etc..you are not making that much...
Feather, gems and extras all cost more..see what they charge on the other site for one with feathers and gems etc..you will find its alot more expensive......

I wouldn't charge less than £40 for anything - just because of the time it all takes. Find out how much cake shops in your area charge - even if that means ringing one up and 'faking' an enquiry. I charge more than my local cake shop and that's because I think my cakes are better basically - they usually ice the cake and pipe some words on it while I decorate mine more elaborately than that and I use organic ingredients or at least free range eggs.
It all depends on whether you're in it for the money or would like the money as an extra but aren't that bothered. If you want to make money on it then don't start selling yourself short at an early stage as it's hard to up your prices.

Shianne, i found the prices and you managed to center the pictures. You're getting better at this, are you sure you're not paying someone to do this, The website looks very professional and you even managed to hide the source code... Well done, i could not even do that on mine!!

Hi Nauseen, I have to admit that i pinched the code off another website. Thanks for the compliment! I've asked my friend to test my site and she can view the source code. I wonder how come you couldn't view it then? When i right click on your site, it says 'function disabled' so yours is definitely working. Oh well! Thanks for all your comments everyone! Now my next problem is sugar flowers, well, roses in particular. One almost got thrown across the room last night !

Hi Shianne, what website are you using to do your webpage? And do you have an html editor? I did a course last week at the pme in south harrow. Wonderful!! It was only 25 pounds but at the end of it i can now say i can make sugar roses!!Plus the technique of doing the mexican hats flowers is so easy!! But it is very easy, if you can have someone to demonstrate the process i'm sure you'll be able to do them.
Also in my webpage the right click is disable yes but if someone were to click on the View tab on the top they'll be able to see everything!! Oh well, i don't have anything to hide...
