Hello everyone. I found this forum through ebay too! I have been cake decorating for the past couple of years but only really for family so I haven't done that many yet but I am hoping to have more time soon to spend decorating, which I am looking forward to. The cakes I have done so far are on this website ccgi.benlongden.plus.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=135 (some of them I'm sure many of you will recognise from Carol Deacon's books). I have never tried using photobucket but I will try to sort that out today so I can put the pictures in the 'Cakes' section. Look forward to chatting with everyone. Jenny

I like Carol Deacon's books too, she makes everything so much easier...can't view your link, it just comes up with an error message so will have to wait to see your cakes until you get them on the site...

Hi Victoria,
Thanks, I'm glad you like them! To be honest, the bushes were a complete nightmare! I think they were also was also something from Carol Deacon's book. I pushed sugarpaste through a metal sieve and then sliced the threads off the back of the sieve with a knife and put them on the cake. However, i found it really hard to get the sugarpaste through and actually ended up breaking the sieve in the end not to mention all the bushes started falling apart so they ended up being a bit 'thrown on' ;D I was wondering whether one of those sugarpaste guns might be better for making the strands but I've never used one myself so I'm not sure.

I have a sugarpaste gun but the tube is really narrow and its hell to get it to come out...maybe I'm just weak! Perhaps I should grease the tube with something first...?

hi victoria just had a look at your cakes they are amazing ,i may have to have a go at the formula 1 cake as i have a motor racing daft husband also.is that one from carol deacons book aswell? I must admit that ive got a quite cheap kids play doh machine with various different nozzles i use only for cake decorating and the paste goes through here quite well for various different effects .

Hi Julie. Thanks! No, the Formula 1 cake wasn't from a book, I used a small airfix model as a guide and then tried to make the cake a scaled up version of that. If you decide to have a go and want to ask anything about what I did just feel free The playdough tool sounds like a really good idea. I'll have to look out for one of those! Jenny

Hi,
I've also used a few playdough tools and they're really handy.
Those are lovely cakes Jenny. I LOVE the little birds and I don't know how you had the patience to put all the scales on the dragon!
Victoria, it's not just you who has a problem with the sugar gun, I do to. I don't use it as I much as I should because trying to get it out is so hard. (ooh, doesn't sound like I'm talking about a sugar gun does it? hee hee)

I notice you mention trex quite a lot...does it not have a really greasy taste? I always thought it was something you fried chips in!!!! I know they won't be eating the figures, but i've also read you use it to cover up cracks in your sugarpaste icing...

Trex is a vegetable fat available from tesco. You don't taste it at all.
