hi my name is donna, and i have been making cakes on and off for a little while. I started because my son has adhd and was fed up with supermarket style cakes making him hyper for hours after eating them. I have only just started doing them properly in the last 6 months and I cant think of anything more relaxing and enjoyable. I also get my 7 year old and 22month old helping me with the cooking. I am also looking for some advice on how to make a 3d dalek cake for my son james who is 11 in 3 weeks. I have never done a 3d cake before so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Would gold lustre spray work for painting it or should i just colour the icing gold and go from there? Thanks

Hi Donna
See you are in worthing.......mee too.. hmm 3d darek..wow....I would think maybe baking a few round cakes and stacking them then carving..or else wot could do the job is a wonder mold the one you make the doll cakes in..just thinking if that would be high enough..you could alway bake in that and then put a round one underneath to give even more height.
Then shape and cover with the gold spray or squires gold liquid is good...there is also a new gold spray you can buy but never tried it so not sure how dense the colour is..and then you would put on the bobbley bits ..lol..and then the sticky out bit..lol...do you like my discription..the sticky out bit would have to be made with pastillage or flower paste for the strenght ad to hold its shape.
Does that make sense...................
Anyway welcome to the site

Hi im Julie ive been doing a few cakes for friends and relatives ive never been to classes but im just learning as i go along although i do have a neighbour who is amazing and does wedding cakes and i get a bit advice from her shes also good to borrow and share equipment off.iam really enjoying doing them and find it very relaxing and i love the praise at the party when you've made the cake i feel very proud and protective of them that i insist on delivering them myself because i would go mad if anything happened in transit.this site is great when you can banter off each other and share ideas (but remember Im only learning)

Can't say I find it relaxing, but then I generally have some sort of disaster with most of my cakes...always seem to turn out okay in the end though, but I do panic for a while
