Hi, I saw the link on ebay and have been having a browse through some of the postings, there are some amazing cakes.
I've only been decorating cakes for about 6 months, started with my daughters christening cake and gone from there really. Still only doing friends and family, but have 2 wedding cakes to do in August which is really scary...I keep practicing different cakes, but starting to put on weight now!

Hi. I saw the link on ebay too. What a good idea! Have been cake decorating about a year in my very spare time, and am getting better but still don't feel confident enough to charge people and my bank balance is diminishing as we speak. Have made 6 cakes for people in the past six weeks and didn't charge. My husband is thinking of divorcing me!! (only joking).

you should at least charge for the ingredients. I still don't think I charge enough, but also think whilst I'm still learning and there is still a good chance I'll thingy it up, I just charge for the ingredients and a nominal sum for my time depending on the cake. I have a pricing matrix where I have worked out the cost of the ingredients for each size and type of cake and then I estimate how long it will take and charge £5 an hour. It generally takes me twice as long as i estimate, but I put that down to the learning curve.
My husband also goes mad that I don't charge enough, he thinks I should add money on to cover his time cleaning up the kitchen after me!

Lol Victoria, I'm in the same position re hubby cleaning the kitchen!!
It's so hard charging people and I think it's the worst part of making cakes to sell. Some people would cringe at paying £45 for a cake but then there are others who say 'oh, yeah, that's fine, go ahead'. It's the latter I try and cater for. I must admit that I would never pay so much for a cake but then again, I'm lucky I don't have to!
