Very sorry, can't find out how to upload pictures and I don't know which other section would be appropriate to post this question. Could someone point me to instructions please? Thank-you. Diane

Ooh, it worked! Great. Will try to upload some more now - I have photos of every cake I've ever done - don't panic, I'm a real beginner, so there are only about 15 in total. Thanks, Diane

that's excellent, i have to do a cake for a 2 year old boy soon and something like that would be ideal...is it one of your own designs or one from a book?

My own design - have done two fire engines now and uploaded both into the kids' competition post. both approx 8" long and 3.5" wide. 1st one was 3 layers of sponge cake, 2nd 2.5 layers (got it out of one 8.5 inch square by splitting the hlf-width bit into two horizontally and placing them side by side). Some tips (sorry if this seems obvious to you, I am only a beginner and found these out the hard way): put the ladder together whilst still damp: a kneeling fireman keels over less than a standing one, and do the head separately then add to body once they're a bit drier: hose reels need to be hollow or they weigh too much - even so, stick a bit of pasta tube in the cake as a hook to hang it on because sugar glue isn't strong enough: oxygen bottles leaning against the side cover up folds where the red sugarpaste couldn't be got to lay flat!

Sorry, another technical qu - is there a way to leave a message for another member? Reason is, I looked at dkcrooby's website, with such beautiful, beautifully-done cakes, and I'd like to know how s/he did the wheels on the fire engine to stick out realistically like that. I mean, was the cake carved out underneath and if so, how was the main body supported? Or extra-thick sugarpaste to hold the wheels out from the surface, or.....? However, there doesn't seem to be a cakes on show post from him/her that I can put the question in. Anyone know how to do it? Diane

Hi Diane,
You could send a pm (private message) to someone by clicking on their screen names and then there will be an option to send them a message.
Thanks for the compliment on my cakes by the way! I made a bar of black sugarpaste (although should have been yellow to match the board), waited for it to dry and then placed the cake on top of that. I cut away a semi circle for each of the wheels and placed a circle of black paste for the wheel in it's place. I hope that makes sense!
My cakes are under 'Shianne's cakes'.
:-)
