Hi, Do any of you get wedding cake customers to sign order forms confirming the details of what they've ordered? What happens if you dont get the form on time and what if you don't get the form before they take the cake? Thanks

I must admit I dont....but I do send out confirmation of all details and follow that up to make sure its correct.. I also have them come over to see the progression or to check the colours etc are to their liking

I haven't used order forms yet, but for a high value cake such as a wedding cake, I'd like some commitment from the customer in case I was left with it after having forked out for materials. So far I've tried to get customers to email me with their exact requirements then I've got something to fall back on. How about deposits for high-value cakes? I've not taken any yet, but I'm tempted to ask for a wedding cake I'm expecting an order for.

I have a standard order form that I fill in with the client, either by email or in person. I also require half the total amount to be paid in order to reserve the date and the remaining half to be paid two weeks prior to the event. The order form has sections for things like; contact details, date, venue, contact name for someone at the venue, delivery time, cake flavours, cake design, tier sizes and serving recommendations, storing recommendations and a disclaimer saying that once I've set it up I'm not responsible for any damage caused by caterers moving the table etc. I've never had anyone be at all suprised by my cake contract or be at all suprised to be asked to pay half up front. It also means that if they pull out I keep the half to pay for ingredients and equipment I've already bought.
