Hi all I've been asked to make a chocolate wedding cake with cigarillos around each tier. I've never done a chocolate wedding cake before so if anyone has a tried and tested chocolate cake recipe I'd be grateful! The bride wants it to look like a a 3-tier but only really wants one tier, therein lies my problem! I know you can cover dummies with sugarpaste but I would need to cover the dummies with whatever then cigarillos, will this work? Thanks for your help Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,
What size chocolate cake do you need for the bottom tier?
You're right about the dummies, just cover them like you would the other 2 tiers.

thing is with the chocolate cigerollos they are so expensive its a shame to have to buy all of those cos they are about £25 per box and you would prob need about 3 of them...with that expense for those it wouldnt be too much more to have the other layers as cake aswell...seems a shame to have the others as dummies....just a thought

I know what you mean about the cost, it does seem madness to cover a dummy when it could easily be a cake.
The bride said she was going to use it as a desert rather than a cake (if you know what I mean) so they will be looking for bigger slices, they'd said a 10/8/6 tier cake but I'll ask how many people they are looking to feed. Their thinking was they would only need the bottom and top tier which was why the middle tier was going to be a dummy.
I've found a chocolate cake recipe in one of my books which is a chocolate mud cake, I might have a practice with that in the next week or so to see how that works out. If anyone does have a tried and trusted chocolate wedding cake recipe I'd be really interested!
thanks Stephanie

I just use my old faithful recipe of 8 eggs then double the rest of ingredients do 16 oz sugar etc and then with the flour just use 1oz of cocoa instead of flour......and you can increase and decrease as much as you want..then i fill with chocolate buttercream...the comments I get are its the best chocolate cake ever etc etc..but its just a plain old simple recipe
