oh crumbs..that a tough one cos for me it varies each time....depending on me and how its going..lol...I would say mazipan would be the londest time cos you are leveling and or building up then covering cos once you have that on the sugarpaste should go on more easily..touch wood..
I would say hmmmmmm crumbs 3 hours for marizpan and 2 for sugarpaste........but thats a guessimate

Thanks. Thought as much. The wedding is on a Friday, so that's my Saturday before it gone. Sunday will be spent royal icing and placing the figures on it - at least I can make them plenty of time in advance!

I think Marjorie means piping in royal icing Rach? What type of decoration Marjorie? I do my cakes and icing etc. over several nights so i'm not sure how long it will take but definitely your Saturday gone!
I've also got a wedding cake coming up next month (3 tier stacked) but luckily hubby is on leave so I'll be able to get it done while he's helping with the children. I haven't been advertising much so it's only through the yellow pages that I'm getting any enquiries at the moment. I'm applying for an evening job so I want to hear whether I get it or not and then if I don't, I'll concentrate on the cakes. One woman phoned me yesterday and said 'is it too late to order a chocolate cake for today?' Hmmmm, no!!
When is your horse one for Rach?

Yes, the royal icing is just for the finishing piping. It's just plain with the bride and her daughter at the top and the groom in kilt climbing up. Wants a fun cake. What your cake Shianne? I'm in the process of making up a website using the microsoft free package which is basic but really easy. You can view it at macakes.co.uk/gallery.aspx. Don't know why the www. doesn't work just now, but at least it gives me some sort of presence.

Marjorie, are you making the figures as well? I couldn't get to your website using the link you gave, but when I googled macakes.co.uk, it came up straight away.
The cake I'm making is a 3 tier stacked cake with roses (lilac and white) flowing down the edge. She didn't want anything on top because she has a topper of her own. I'm busy on a fish one for my dad at the moment and i cant wait to see how that ends up, well I hope! I'll post it when I'm done.

Yes, I can make them well in advance once I have photos for hair colour etc. I don't know whether she wants comedy ones or more facially correct ones at the moment. She has seen examples of the moulded face ones so will just have to wait.
You'll have fun doing the fish one as lustres are great for the scales. I just love the variety of skills which can be brought to cake decorating and gives me an excuse just to 'play'.
So what did you think of the site so far?

Sorry Marjorie, was meant to comment on your site but didn't! I think it's perfect, just what you need. Only one suggestion though, is there no way you could have a cake or something to do with cakes as the logo? Are you going to start charging more for your cakes now as you seem to be setting it up as a little business?

Obviously as the site is for free it's very limited in what I can do - as is my time to play around with it. I really just wanted somewhere I can let potential customers look at what I've done so far and just work by word of mouth. I'm still working full-time, so I really want to keep the cakes as a profitable hobby for the moment.
