I've done one - if you look at www.emmascakes.co.uk you'll see a picture. I made a fruitcake (I'm sure sponge would be fine - just make it very chilled before cutting it) which came right to the top the the tin (I think it was a six inch tin) Then when it came out I sliced off a bit less than an inch off the top. I then cut this circle of cake in half and used one of the semi circles as the back rest of the chair. I cut the other semi circle in half and used them as the armrests. I had to use marzipan to stick it together and sooth over the joins although I guess buttercream could be used just as well. I thoroughly enjoyed making this cake - hope you do too!

Thankyou both for the reply, emma your cakes are gorgeous, i have also looked at the one you made that is on your website, lovely........ as i need some inspiration. i was thinking of making a round cake and a smaller chair, but then i would have to put a person on it and i am not good at modelling, but thanks i will see what i can come up with, and thanks dizzy i will go have a look for that book.
