Ok, this is the question, my dd want a 2 tier heart cake. I'm not sure how the icing will fold at the side pointy bit. And do i really need to use a board first? If i want to just stack them, do i ice them individually or ice first one, cut middle bit to accomodate smaller? Thanks all

okay you need to use a board first of all..heart shape cakes are just as eay as any other cakes just put your icing over in one go shape round with your hand ..to mould the icing into the crease at the top then once you got your basic shape get out your shagar shaper and smooth and buff...
Ice each cake separately and leave to dry for as long as you can then stack

will it not be a big bunch of icing at the bottom pointy bit. Had a disaster try with the square hence the worry about this corner bit

dont roll your icing out to big..just enough to cover the cake..you will find if you put your hand over the pointy bit and mould it down the icing will fold out at the bottom so you can trim it..so you wont get a big lump..but take your time and ease it over

Pastillage mix...from squires kitchen it comes in a powder and you mix together with water...use like sugarpaste roll out and shape but it dries quicky and very hard..but gives you good strong structure...
You will find the heart cake okay...I find them easier to do than squre ones but mould with your hand first and you will be find..then buff and smooth till it goes shiny really buff it...it will go glassy and feel soo smooth..its worth the work..trust me
good luck
