Hi, Does anyone have some advice about using a doll tin? I've lowered the temp on the oven and it still seems to cook on the outside but not the inside. Thanks!

How about wrapping it with brown paper like you do with rich fruit cakes which somehow protects the outside - think it must stop the metal getting too hot.

Thanks Marjorie, i'll definitely give it a try next time i bake one. It's ended up quite brown on the outside but not too hard so it should be ok. i think i'll also cook it slowly from the start and see what happens. Very frustrating - i hate the baking side of things but love the decorating.

Shianne..
Do you have the wilton doll tin...I use this all the time without problem...I bake the cake at 160C takes about 1 hour ish............the tin also has a pole which goes in the middle to conduct the heat to help with even cooking..If the top starts to get abit brown I just pop some foil over it..
\hope that helps ..the brown paper will also help and also put the tin on a baking sheet

Hi Rach,
Well, the next one i did collapsed in the middle even after cooking it on a low heat. I used a cake mix this time so i think i'll revert to my normal sponge cake recipe and see if that makes a difference.

Hi Nauseen,
It's me who's baking the doll cake. I also used a pyrex bowl for my first one but have just bought a tiffin tin (the one without the rod in the middle). I think i'll be selling that one and buying a wilton one as it took 4 attempts before it was ok.
